The relationship between the office building and hotel was strengthened through the interplay of structure and the way that the excess heat generated by the hotel is designed to be used by the office building. A wind generation capacity and solar PV array on the roof and facade were integrated as features in the design. A central atrium for the hotel aided in regulating air flow and temperature for the hotel rooms and the green roof for the lower hotel stopped the heat island effect and reflection for the offices, and provided an attractive alternative to the normal building roofs found in Beijing.
