Xuyi Eco-AgriCity Masterplan, Jiangsu Province, China (Concept Design)

Xuyi was the culmination of significant planning and investigation into what the concept of an Eco-AgriCity really meant. Within this context it meant a city and rural relationship that encouraged people to stay in the country because they now had their own fully sustainable micro-city which interacted with the surrounding countryside at an unprecedented level. The city was planned for approximately 30, 000 residents containing all of the buildings typically associated with a city, including a people’s square. The design maximised orientation, green spaces incorporating bike tracks, green public transport, centralised (district) heating and cooling systems, site wide green rating system, energy generation from solar, wind and biomass from the surrounding rural communities. The ideas developed at this site are now being utilised in other locations in China.
